Speaking to the media persons on Saturday, Madkaikar admitted that the casino operators are not following the SOPs laid down for the visitors, with regards to maintaining physical distancing, wearing of mask, etc. “I have personally seen people crowding outside the casino lobby. There is no social distancing …no wearing of mask….nothing,” he said.

“During the meeting, discussion on traffic management will be also held,” he said adding, that since last three days, during a night drive, over hundreds of four-wheelers and two-wheelers have been clamped and towed.

Meanwhile, the Corporation of The City of Panjim has once again initiated drive to fine tourists moving around without wearing masks. A fine of Rs 100 per tourist is imposed.

“With tourism season and unlock, several thousand tourists are visiting the State daily. The city is full of visitors. Though we welcome tourists, they have to follow the strict protocols laid down to fight COVID-19,” Madkaikar said.

He said large numbers of tourists are coming from Delhi, Gujarat, etc, which have seen spike in number of COVID cases.

“Under such situation, we need to take all precautions. We cannot risk lives of people,” he said.
